After leaving school and a brief spell in the Merchant Navy, John spent 4 years at Spurgeons College in the late 1960s. He then pastored 2 evangelical churches before teaching for 3 years at Moorlands Bible College. In 1986 he was invited by Terry Virgo to join the Eldership team at the the Newfrontiers church in Brighton; today called Church of Christ the King (CCK). In 1988 he took on the role of Lead Elder for about 8 years.
In more recent years while remaining a preaching Elder at CCK he has travelled widely both nationally and internationally, involved in preaching, teaching and training. For many years he has taken a leading role in the Newfrontiers’ Leadership Training Program as well as heading up the Theology Forum. He retired from the Eldership of CCK in June 2009 and responded to an invitation from the Elders of Jubilee Community Church in Cape Town to join them for a year - a church that John had been travelling to regularly over the past 20 years.
John has authored several books about the End Times and the Church. He has a passion to see the establishment and development of strong local churches and for clear communication of Christian truth and doctrine.
John and Sue have been married for over 40 years and have 2 sons and 7 grandchildren.
