One of the things that we really like about Cape Town is the famous Botanical Gardens at Kirstenbosch. It’s a brilliant place to walk and we’ve got the opportunity this time hopefully to see it just about every month of the year. We’ve purchased an annual season ticket which we have been given at a senior rate and despite registering as coming from overseas we’ve also been given the local South African Resident rate - total cost 20 pounds. We’ve visited twice already so with just one more visit we are in profit! The garden is stunning in its own right, but one way you look up to a glorious mountain view and the other way gives you get a panoramic sweep over Cape Town. Good tea shops as well.

Some interest has been provoked by our revelation that last Tuesday we learned the salsa at dance classes provided by Jubilee Community Church. I have since learned that others in the class were mightily impressed by our style and rhythmic ability and yes we are going again this week and no we haven’t practised. However I am sure it’s like riding a bike that having once learned, it will remain a natural ability.

We had a great Sunday, I preached again at Jubilee morning and evening from Philippians 4 mostly about right thinking. We had lunch with the van Rhyns, a visit to the south of Cape Town to see Steve and Heather Oliver who are in town and then after the evening meeting back to our good friends Dave and Herma Adams. Their house was the very first one we went to on our original visit here 20 years ago. In fact David is the only Elder who has remained in place over all those years and we have sometimes hosted David and Herma in Brighton and they us in Cape Town.

We’ve had Monday off and among other less than exciting activities we found the local recycling centre which turns out to be run on behalf of a charity rather than by the local council. In a way it makes it feel all the more worthwhile to go there with our stuff that can be recycled for a good cause as well as helping to save the planet.

This coming week Sue is seeing a number of women in the church and I will be preparing for the Leadership Training School which begins on Saturday. My subject this week will be ‘The  Glory of Christ” so I obviously have a great topic to get ready.

I never anticipated that we would ever use so many communication channels but we’re opting for as many as we can in the hope that we will be able to keep people in touch with what we are doing. So besides email, Sue is now on Facebook, I twitter most days on johnehosier and of course there is this weekly blog. With all this communicating demanding our attention fitting in the dance class is going to be tight, but the younger people present obviously need a good role model!
